MARTHA WASHINGTON CAKE QUILT

This quilt was designed for the Quilter's Unlimited  Quilt Show in Chantilly, Virginia, near Washington, D.C. It honors our very first First Lady, Martha Washington, and is based on the cake she served her guests during the holidays. This quilt features a Martha Washington Star block in the center and Cake Stand basket blocks, set in a very traditional medallion style.

VALENTINE COOKIES: In My Heart You're All Stars

This quilt was first taught in February, so choosing Valentine's Day colors was a natural. Red, pink, and, for contrast, black are the colors I used in this quilt. The reds and pinks are rich, saturated, and bright.
This quilt is dedicated to my students in my dessert quilt classes. They are a wonderful group of loyal quilters, many have had their quilts in my first book about my dessert quilts, Sweet Treats. In my heart they really are all stars.

IT'S A MYSTERY DESSERT QUILT

This quilt's colors were inspired by an idea from one of my students. It was suggested that I choose colors for a quilt, then have students choose one color of their choice, a "mystery" color, to add. My chosen colors are black, gray, and red. My mystery color is a surprise. Choose your own mystery color and have fun! Of course, the dessert is a mystery, too, which you will only find out when you look inside the pattern.

NOT JUST HUCKLEBERRY PIE

This quilt was inspired by a seminar I will be teaching for the Meandering Moose Quilt Retreats "somewhere in the quiet woods in Montana" in May, 2008. Huckleberries and the many wonderful desserts, jams, and syrups that can be made with them are very plentiful and popular in Montana. To honor the huckleberry's color - but add a little creativity - I chose to work with colors often labeled "jewel tones" - blue, blue-violet, purple, and red-violet. The Berry Blocks are made from Half Square Triangles! They are surprisingly easy to make.

PISTACHIO ALMOND CAKE

Have you been waiting for a green quilt?  Inspired by a beautiful bouquet I received in celebration of my newest book, Sweet Treats, this quilt features sparks of fuchsia, blue-violet, orange and gold against a background of lush, restful greens.  Do you want your quilt to be scrappy like mine, or not?  It's your choice!  I've included yardage for both.

BANANA SPLIT

This quilt features six complementary colors and two values. The complements are red and green, yellow and purple, and orange and blue. The warm colors - red, yellow, and orange - are featured in light values only. I chose pink (light red), peach (light orange) and light yellow fabrics. The cool colors - green, blue, and purple - are featured in medium values only. I also included many medium to large scale prints, plaids and strips in my fabric choices, not just tone-on-tone or monochromatic (one color) fabrics.

ALMOST NEAPOLITAN

This quilt features the colors of Neapolitan Ice Cream - almost. Using browns (dark, chocolate and medium) and pinks (pastel pinks, dusty pinks, fuchsia pinks or all of the above), plus a little black added for depth and contrast, you will create a rich, eye-catching, warm-looking quilt.

STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE with CHOCOLATE TRUFFLES

This quilt features the colors red, yellow, black and white. Cheerful and bold but warm and rich, too, and with a surprising contrast of black and white, I played with colors that don't usually "go together."

TRIPLE BERRY TUMBLE at SUNRISE

Triple Berry Tumble combines two complementary colors, red-orange and blue-green. Rich and intensely colorful, this quilt has surprising accents of bright red-orange and blue-green prints.

LEMON BLUEBERRY POUND CAKE

Lemon Blueberry Pound Cake combines two complementary colors, yellow-orange and blue-violet. Very colorful and right, this quilt has an unusual circular block and circular setting.
