SMALL BITES WITH TEDDY BEARS

Supply List

Small Bites with Teddy Bears was created especially for Country Quilts and Bears, a wonderful quilt store in Clearwater, Florida.  The colors were chosen to go with the blue water of the nearby ocean and the wonderful colors of handmade bears created by Francy Gordon and displayed in the quilt shop.  Red was added for color, contrast and warmth.  Have fun with this second Small Bites quilt!

1 medium red, 1 yard

BACKING: 3 yards

SUPPLIES:

Sewing machine in good working order.

Sewing supplies you regularly use such as thread, straight pins, scissors, seam ripper, etc.

Rotary cutting equipment: mat (18" x 24"), ruler (6" x 24"), and cutter with a sharp blade.

6" square ruler.  This is important.

CUTTING: Note: Medium and dark blues are used in the Four Patches and outside borders. Light blues are used only in the center blocks. Browns range from lightest (# 1) to darkest (# 4). Later in the pattern, medium and dark blue fabrics are numbered for clarity only (see Outside "borders"). The numbering for the blue fabrics doesn't indicate a range from darkest to lightest.

CENTER BLOCKS

You will make 4 blocks. For each block, cut:

1 medium or dark blue strip, 1½" x 42"

1 light blue strip 1½" x 42"

From each of these strips, cut a 14" length,

and set the rest of the strips aside.

1 light blue strip, 4" x 42"

From this cut 2 squares, 4" x 4"

Recut the rest of the strip to 3" x 34" (approximately),

then cut 8 squares, 3" x 3".

Cut these 3" squares in half to make 16 triangles.

1 brown strip, 4" x 42"

From this cut 2 squares, 4" x 4" and 1 square, 3½" x 3½"

Repeat the above cutting with different fabrics to make 4 blocks.

SASHING AND POSTS

From Brown # 1 (lightest) fabric, cut 5 squares, 2½" x 2½"

From red fabric, cut 3 strips, 2½" x 42".

From these strips, cut 4 rectangles, 2½" x 9½"

and 4 rectangles, 2½" x 20½"

OUTSIDE "BORDERS"

From Brown # 1, cut 4 squares, 4" x 4"

From Brown # 2 or Brown # 3 (but not both), cut 20 squares, 4" x 4"

From Brown # 4, cut 8 squares, 4" x 4", 4 squares, 3½" x 3½",

4 rectangles, 3½" X 12½", AND 4 rectangles, 3 ½" x 15½"

3½" x 6½", 4 rectangles, 3½" x 9½", 4 rectangles, 3½" x 18½",

and 4 rectangles, 3½" x 21½".
